Fear

"Don't worry, I'll be fine," Elise murmured, waving off her concerned friend. He was hovering over her like he always seemed to do when he sensed her fear.

"I don't know, Elise, you certainly don't seem fine." His brown eyes were wide with concern, a frown chisled into his expression.

"You're not my father, John. Just go away!"

Elise was clutching her stomach so hard, afraid that if she let go her stomach would drop and fall right off her body. It certainly was a new type of pain she had never experienced before. The doctors had warned her she needed treatment right away, but what good would that have done? It could have bought her an extra day, but when it came right down to it,  she didn't want an extra day. She wanted to just be done with it all.

John shifted uncomfortably, hesitating before taking a few steps closer to her crouched form. "I know I'm not your father, but I'm the only thing you've got. You're dying." He chocked out the last word as if by saying it she would die on the spot.

Groaning in pain, Elise couldn't get out a reply. She was crouched in the corner of her room, forehead against the wall and hands clenched even tighter around her stomach. Sweat beaded her brow and soaked her once beautiful auburn hair.

"I'm afraid to die," she whispered, fear taking over her pain. She almost felt herself drifting, losing herself and her earthly body. Elise could feel tears rolling down her cheeks as she wondered what was happening. She would never be able to travel like she had once planned, or accomplish becoming the first female supervisor in her company. She had wanted to do so much...

John ran to his friend, wrapping his arms around her. "Don't worry Elise. I'm here for you. I'll make sure nothing happens to you. I love you so much, you know. You have always been my best friend." John burst into tears as his friend slowly slumped more heavily in his arms.

Elise smiled sadly at her friend. It was strange seeing him hold her body, but not actually her.

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she whispered, "I love you too, John. Don't worry, I'll wait for you."
